Hello Friends, yesterday was supposed to be a newsletter day and I am sorry to have missed it. I was travelling for 18 hours and today is my Monday so here we are. Lamb Stew will be coming out next Monday and then we will go back to our regularly scheduled programming. Which means you’ll have the newsletter two weeks in a row. Here are a couple updates. If you’re one of those people who might tell me to “stick to soup” - be aware that there is no soup in this newsletter. Except I did eat some French onion in Texas.
This week I travelled to Austin, Texas with one of my best good friends. It was a wonderful trip. We went to Austin City Limits and I saw Bleachers, Leann Rimes, Megan Thee Stallion, Erykah Badu, Miley Cyrus, Modest Mouse, Billie Eilish, Band of Horses, Trixie Mattel (the first drag queen to ever play the festival), and Jon Batiste. My review of the festival is that it was very well done and there are way too many cuties in attendance. Hot. People. Everywhere. And the heat was hot as well. Everyone in Austin was very sweet and friendly but I was disappointed in the lack of southern accents. There was, however, no lack of cowboy hats. Which I appreciated. Great tacos. Great brisket. Great brisket tacos.
Vacationing has been difficult for me, post – pandemic. I find myself getting depressed and homesick a lot when I’m away and sometimes I have to talk myself into participating. Luckily my friends are very gentle with me and easy to be around. So, while I had a great time away, I am happy to be back home in Pittsburgh. I watched Together Together on the plane last night (which is not a sad movie) and I cried from beginning to end to the great concern of many of my fellow passengers. That reminds me of this story from This American Life about people crying uncontrollably on airplanes. I am looking forward to getting back into the kitchen tomorrow. New soups will be available at Mayfly on Thursday.

This week we had World Mental Health Day and National Coming Out Day. There is really no need for me to say that coming out and mental health are very closely tied but there I said it. The last two days may have been more difficult for some than others. I know that seeing everyone’s posts about mental health on Sunday didn’t really help make me feel any better. That being said, if you’re going through it – I’m really sorry. I love you. Please do your best to take care of yourself. It might not be okay but it will get better. Soup usually helps.
